Community

We ARE more than a school. We ARE a community.

When you become a parent at GSP, you become part of a community. Families who choose this very special approach to education share a vital involvement in their child’s education. As a community, we decide the directions and priorities for the School’s growth and development. A parent-elected Board governs GSP and brings important issues before the community, encouraging discussion and interaction.

Each family is asked to contribute 25 volunteer hours per year to support School events and assist in the day-to-day operations of the School. Our families do everything from painting classrooms, writing newsletters, chaperoning field trips and building “cubbies” for the preschool, to planning community-building events and celebrations. As a community, GSP helps organize the annual St. Martin’s Day Lantern Parade, the German Holiday Bazaar, clothing and food drives, and other fundraisers.

Portland has a rich German heritage. GSP has partnerships with various German corporations and other community businesses that have allowed us to celebrate our spirit and raise additional funds for special projects and classroom supplies. We look forward to future community partnerships and value all the contributions our families bring to the School.
